About Me

I've taught at Smyrna West for 15+ years. Before that, I was a librarian at Tom Joy Elementary in Metro Nashville where I was District Runner-Up for Teacher of the Year. Passionate about helping students find their voices and rediscover a love of reading for pleasure, I make time for the things I value by providing students with:

• a welcoming and inclusive environment
• access to high-quality, relevant, and engaging texts
• time to read books they choose
• time to write for authentic audiences and personal reflection
• creative options for artistic expression
• exposure to current and diverse authors and poets
• exposure to engaging mentor texts
• opportunities to find and share their unique voices
• opportunities to develop their community-building skills as they read/write/share with others
